Can my natural hair texture change?

Yes! Many factors can influence your natural hair patterns. Porosity, texture, the environment, your heritage, chemical damage, and even getting a haircut can change the way your curls want to sit and how they want to curl. Going natural means working with what your hair wants to do, and not trying to force it to do what it doesn’t want to do. If you try to manipulate it too much, chances are you’ll lose the battle and it’ll sit a little strange. Try twisting a curl family in the opposite direction. You’ll immediately see how funny it looks.

As your patterns change over time, your haircare routine and products may need to change as well to keep your hair healthy. If what you were using before is no longer getting you the same results then it’s a sign to change up your methods and possibly products. If you have a good understanding of natural textures in general, then you will be able to reassess your hair and workout what your hair needs right now. There is an element of trial and error, however, so read through our blogs and therapy programs to fast track your results and save you time and energy.

It helps to know what curl type you have as this will determine what method to follow, the best products to use and most importantly, to better understand your hair and why it does what it does (when it wants). If you focus on getting your hair healthy, the gorgeous textures will follow and blossom like never before.
