How is a curl cut different to a normal haircut?
Curl cuts are completely different from generic “wet” cuts offered in general salons, like night and day! Hairdressers in NZ are not taught anything about natural textures when they go through their training, which is why it is so hard to find a hairdresser that has the knowledge and technical skill to cut curly hair correctly. Having the underpinning knowledge in both hairdressing and curls is equally important for professional stylists, which is why we have created our own UKS curl training workshops for our stylists as well as support and encourage them through hairdressing qualifications and regular training. Carla, the director of Urban Kurl Studio, has created her own curl cutting methods, which cater for wavy, curly and coily hair types, as well as those who like to wear their hair both curly and straight (see The Sturly Cut in our curl services menu for more information).
Getting a professional curl specialist to cut your curls is key. Simply asking a stylist “do you cut curly hair” is not enough, as they will say “yes”, because technically, they can. The difference is that a curl specialist will predict exactly what the end result will be before they even start cutting, simply by knowing how your curls behave and what your curls need to get the best results. The most important key is that you will walk out with your natural curls, frizz-free, not blow-dried straight, and you will have a beautiful, balanced end style!
